Mediation Profile

Cyril completed 41 years employment in a large financial institution in September 2014. The latter 20 years were spent in managerial positions. Having observed many disputes and grievances between staff, staff and management, and indeed organisation and clients, Cyril concluded that there had to be better methods of resolution than those used in his organisation. As a result, he became informally involved in the amicable resolution of many workplace conflicts, using his unique position, as part of management and at the same time as a member of the finance union. Both bodies welcomed the integrity and sense of reality that he brought to the table, being able to understand and empathise with both sides of the arguments. Part time Mediation Studies followed and he completed his Accreditation with the National Register of Mediators, while still working. Since finishing full time employment Cyril has completed the Qualifying Assessment Programme of Beyond Conflict. He also holds Diplomas in Family Law and Industrial Relations. He continues to attend workshops and seminars to keep abreast with developments in the mediation industry. Cyril is also a working member of the Kennedy Institute Workplace Mediation Group (KIWMRG) which is based at Maynooth University in Ireland. KIWPRG is a collective of practicing and academic mediators. Their current project is a comprehensive review of the literature regarding the competencies, skills, and behaviours of effective workplace mediators, along with an analysis of the implications for mediation practice, standards and training in Ireland.

Cyril has mediated/co-mediated c 50 cases, totaling in excess of 200 hours, involving Workplace, Social and Family disputes. There is a trend showing in the feedback from these cases, that Cyril’s empathetic personal skills as a Mediator, engenders a level of trust in the Mediation Process, which in turn allows the disputants the comfort and space to find their own solutions to the issues involved.

Cyril’s mediation style could be described as adaptable, using his knowledge and experiences, to utilize the range of competencies and skills he has encountered in a manner that best fits the individual circumstances of any given mediation.

Cyril’s initial interest was in Workplace Mediation. However, since embarking on his studies he has realized the potential benefit of mediation, to the broad social fabric of society. As a result he has broadened his interest to specialize also in Family and Social Mediation and is also available for all manners of conflict management. Cyril’s broad range of contacts within the mediation industry position him to recommend specific mediators with particular experience, in response to any specific or generic queries.

Fees are based on complexity and estimated duration of Mediation. Fee structure is confirmed prior to commencement of Mediation.
