Mediation Profile

Mercedes Watson is a Chartered Mediator and a member of the ADR Institute of Canada, and the ADR institute of Ontario. She currently works as a consultant and is a founding partner of the Thought Department Inc.

She has been a management leader for over twenty years, leading teams and organizational change in both the private and not-for-profit sectors. With experience including accomplishments as a CEO & Chief Negotiator, to successfully managing and growing small to mid-sized divisions involving the development of proprietary software, business processes, organizational infrastructure and team effectiveness, her professional interests have focused on individual, peer to peer professional and organizational development through analysis and understanding of conflict patterns. Capacity is built for the individual, team or the organization to recognize these patterns and utilize creative problem solving methods to minimize conflict and enhance organizational efficiency.

Since 2006, Mercedes has been involved in the study of conflict analysis management and pursued studies at a masters level in order to bring a more informed approach to her mediation work and her clients. 

As a Chartered Mediator, she utilizes these skills through teaching at Queen's IRC and for her roster of clients who are in need of assistant to manage, resolve or better understand the impact of conflict as it relates to their unique circumstance, including culturally and diverse workplaces and issues related to gender, bias and team efficiencies.

Mercedes Watson uses an interest based mediation style that is directed dependent on the needs of her clients and the parties to the dispute. She is able to draw on all of her training both practical and academic to determine the most appropriate process and forum for enhanced problem solving methods to increase the opportunities for the participants to generate ideas and work towards the best outcome to their dispute.

Mercedes Watson has focused on facilitative mediation within an organizational setting and has mediated a variety of disputes including multi-party disputes, contract disputes, personal injury, cultural issues and employment related conflict.
