Mediation Profile

Anthony Frederick Gross is a Barrister at Law, Lincoln's Inn, and Advocate of the High Court of Kenya, with over 35 years experience in Law and Dispute Resolution. His nationality is Kenyan. He is a Chartered Arbitrator of the CIArb, with over 35 cases as sole arbitrator, 3 tribunal arbitrations and 2 ICC arbitrations, mainly restricted to Kenya. He has also appeared as counsel in over 45 arbitrations. He has served on the Kenya Court of Appeal Law Reform ADR Sub Committee, CIArb Kenya Branch ADR Sub Committee and was part of the stake-holding committee for re-drafting of the Arbitration Act and legislation to bring about Court Mandated Mediation. He is a tutor, lecturer and examiner for the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and has tutored on Arbitration and Mediation in Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia and Nigeria. In the fledgling mediation environment in Kenya, he has promoted the use of court mandated mediation as a solution for the expeditious disposal of arrears of cases. He is a founder member and Director of the Dispute Resolution Center in Nairobi, which has espoused and supported, lectured and proposed Mediation in Kenya since 2000 and he has conducted over 42 Mediations and 3 facilitations to date. The Dispute Resolution Centre has now amalgamated with the Strathmore University Dispute Resolution Centre (SDRC) of which he is a director and on their panel of mediators. (http://www.sdrc.or.ke)

42 Mediations/325 hours of mediation experience. Numerous ongoing continuous professional development courses as participant, lecturer, tutor and examiner in Arbitration and Mediation as per schedule.

Essentially facilitative, I more recently espouse a more flexible non restrictive style depending on circumstances, including transformative and occasionally evaluative. I do not shy away from the concept of Arb/Med or Med/Arb and have concluded 4 mediations that started as Arbitrations.
