I am the founder and CEO of UK Mediation Ltd, one of Europe's larger mediation and mediation training providers. My organisation has been running since 1999 and has come to be highly regarded in the mediation field, carrying out mediation, facilitation, design of mediation schemes, training, and practice consultancy.
I have a background in management, training and psychotherapy. I have studied the psychology of conflict to doctoral level, gaining the prestigious Doctor of Psychotherapy award from Middlesex University. I am a writer, trainer, public speaker and presenter, and contribute regularly to TV and radio on topics related to conflict resolution and the psychology of conflict.
I have 25 years experience as a psychotherapist, and initially trained in mediation in 1996.
I have been mediating and facilitating for over 23 years, and have completed some hundreds of mediation cases in that time.
I have worked throughout Europe, including Gibraltar, Malta, France, Finland, Sweden, etc.
Outside of Europe I have had international assignments in Nigeria, Jordan, and USA.
Facilitative and Transformative. I apply Gestalt theory to my mediation work, and have an advanced knowledge of the psychological processes involved in conflict and dispute resolution. Through my doctoral studies I have developed a unique model of mediation, which I apply to all of my mediation and facilitation cases.
My particular strength is in resolving disputes with a significant interpersonal element: disputes where parties have reached impasse because of resentments, personality clashes, and issues of people's conduct or demeanour.
As a non-lawyer mediator I do not give opinion or evaluate people's claims and defences. This helps me in maintaining impartiality and dealing principally with the interpersonal dimension of conflicts. I am able to engage people's lawyers, if present, and to recognise that they have a particular role to play in resolving the dispute. However, I leave the evaluation and advice-giving up to them.
Commercial, workplace, business, and any type of interpersonal mediation cases. Team facilitation, team mediation, and training and consultancy for in-house mediation services. Dispute resolution with committees, boards of directors, trustees, and partners. Working with private firms, public organisations, government bodies, private sector companies, charities, NGOs, military and emergency services.
