EQP - Experience Qualification Path (Historic)
Nicole van Gelder has extensive experience in managing complex processes in the world of political administration. Her strengths are her communication skills and ability to organize and negotiate. She was able to develop these skills in the years (1979-2000) she spent working for the municipality of Amsterdam. Her ability to communicate clearly and organize effectively proved to be very useful when she was spokesman for the municipal executive and the right hand of various aldermen. Subsequently she was responsible for many years for discussing all national and international cable television access contracts with the various programme providers. Her ability to negotiate with perseverance and diplomacy in both Dutch an English came to the fore when she was put in charge of the project to sell the Amsterdam cable television network to A2000 (now UPC) in 1995.
Her experience in this area resulted in her being seconded to manage the privatization of the cable television service in The Hague in 1996. In 1999 she was seconded to the position of cable contract process manager for the municipality of Rotterdam. As a result of her experience in building bridges between the public and private sectors she became increasingly interested in mediation techniques. Soon after completing formal training as a mediator in the Netherlands in 1999 she started her own professional practice in Amsterdam. This practice (Archimediair) has been providing process & communication management and negotiating & mediation services since 1 January 2000.
As an experienced Dutch certified mediator she provides mediation services for various individual national and international clients. Following her mediation education she got actively involved as a facilitator in creative solution solving (trained among others at the Creative Problem Solving Institute (CSPI at the University of Buffalo). As a trainer she welcomes the opportunity to share her experience with others. She is also actively involved on behalf of the shareholders of Eneco Energy (61 municipalities)) in the liberalization and privatization of the energy sector.
Based on experience Van Gelder strongly believes in adopting various mediation styles. Her main focus is reality testing, solution focused as well as quantitative facilitative, which doesn’t mean she cannot be evaluative if necessary.
