Feedback digest by IMI Support, 28 Aug 2018 Reviewer: Delma Sweeney, Programme Director, Mediation & Conflict Intervention, Dept. Business and Law, National University of Ireland Maynooth Ph. 00353 1 7086635 Ruth Behan successfully completed the Diploma in Mediation Studies at University College Dublin in the academic year 2003/2004. She was an interested and dedicated student who demonstrated excellent communication skills in role-play, showing particular ability in giving feedback to other students, in reviewing groundrules with clients, in the use of questioning, and dealing with clients concerns. Ruth chose the topic of "The Law of Tort" for her major project and wrote a well researched assignment. Before taking the mediation diploma Ruth had completed a Diploma in Counselling, a Diploma in Psythotherapy and a BA in Psychoanalytic Studies. I have since developed a better understanding of her work as both as a mediator, trainer and psychoanalytical psychotherapist. I have referred clients to her who reported very positively on her interpersonal and management skills and have reported no negative comments in relation to her practice. Ruth co-mediates both commercial and family disputes with her business partner Joe Behan in Behan Dispute Resolution and I have read references from Environmental (Ecological) NGO Core Funding Limited and Sheehan & Co., Solicitors relating to her work with him in co-mediation. Ruth has consistently been rated in five reviews of her practice as a skilled and professional practitioner. Clients have written that she is “exceptionally talented mediator with powerful interpersonal skills” and that her work has been a “key factor in resolving a very difficult and complex situation.” She has been recommended as a mediator in any form of dispute. Clients who used Ruth’s services as a mediator in a dispute involving a director and senior management within a company expressed their complete satisfaction with the result. Others commented on the “most professional manner” in which Ruth and her co-mediator conducted a case. A wide range of mediation skills have emerged from feedback received by Ruth, however the professionalism with which Ruth and her co-mediator conduct themselves is a key strength and source of comment by clients. A very high percentage of clients are willing to use her services again and recommend her as a mediator. Ruth is an approved tutor and mediation accreditation assessor with the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and undertakes extensive training programmes both through the institute and privately. Ruth’s practice in mediation includes both commercial and family work and is enhanced by her background as a psychoanalytic psychotherapist and also her position as an international trainer with Psychology of Vision. I am aware of her work with I.C.C. as a mediator and judge in their Mediation Moot. I recommend her to the International Mediation Institute.
