Michel initially combined his mediation practice with that of a busy Queens Counsel and Deputy High Court Judge. He formed Independent Mediators in 2006 and has been exclusively a mediator since that date. He is recognised as one of the top commercial mediators in the UK.
He has been mediating for some eighteen years and he has mediated in excess of 1000 civil and commercial mediations.
Michel has undertaken a number of mediations of an international nature a large proportion of which have involved governments, state owned business mediating with individuals and companies from across the globe. He has been appointed through Independent Mediators direct and via such other providers as the ICC. The disputes have covered such areas as: trusts, financial services, banking, insurers infra structure projects, telecommunications, construction etc. The countries involved have included: UK, USA, a number of European and Middle Eastern Countries and were held in London, Amsterdam, Brussels, Jersey, Guernsey and Gibraltar.
Solicitors have commented that Michel mixes the authority and stature of a QC and a former Deputy High Court Judge with personal charm and that he is able to quickly gain the trust of the parties. He blends facilitative and evaluative techniques as the situation demands to create his own versatile and effective style of mediation. He is said to affect settlement in a more direct manner than many other mediators.
