IMI Implements New DEI Policy and Introduces Revised Fee Scheme

The International Mediation Institute (IMI) is proud to announce the implementation of its new Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Policy, alongside a revised fee scheme, effective from 1 March 2024.

DEI Policy Highlights

The DEI Policy aims to establish an equitable fee structure for the appraisal and listing of mediator assessment and basic training programs, as well as for mediators themselves, considering economic conditions, stages of mediation development, and other relevant factors worldwide.

IMI recognizes the importance of creating an equitable fee structure that reflects not only the varying economic conditions across different regions but also mediation development, ensuring accessibility  for a diverse range of individuals and organizations.

Revised Fee Scheme

IMI has transitioned from its previous two-track pricing scheme, which categorized countries as either ‘full fee paying’ or ‘discounted’ based on their GDP per capita compared to the world average GDP per capita (IMF 2022), to a new pricing scheme that considers a dual classification system provided by the World Bank Group (WBG) and the Human Development Index (HDI) of the United Nations.

Under this new scheme, fees are structured as follows:

  • Regular Fee: Applicable to high-Income Countries (WBG) with Very High Human Development (HDI).
  • 25% Discounted Fee: Applicable to  upper-Middle-Income Countries (WBG) with High Human Development (HDI).
  • 50% Discounted Fee: Applicable to  lower-Middle-Income and Low-Income Countries (WBG) with Medium and Low Human Development (HDI).

This scheme aims to promote inclusivity and eliminate geographical or financial barriers, ensuring that individuals and organizations from all backgrounds and economic circumstances have access to IMI’s services.

If you are unsure where your organization falls under the new DEI Policy, please reach out to the IMI Team at imisupport@imimediation.org before making your payment.

IMI is committed to maintaining transparency in communicating the fee scheme to all stakeholders, providing clear information on how fees are determined, any adjustments made, and the rationale behind those decisions.

Information on the new DEI fee scheme for the registration and listing of individuals as IMI Certified and IMI Qualified Mediators will be communicated shortly.

IMI has been set up as a non-profit initiative, with a symbolic pricing scheme which enables access to the quality assessment scheme to all. However, the pricing scheme which was set up 15 years ago and which had once been amended had long ceased to cover IMI’s associated internal costs, hampering its capacity to carry out the process in a timely manner. By implementing this DEI Policy and revised fee scheme, IMI is working towards a more inclusive and diverse mediation landscape, where access to mediation services is not hindered by geographical or financial constraints.

IMI is a non-profit foundation, funded predominantly through mediator listing contributions and donations from mediators, as well as the organization application processing fees, which should cover the costs of assessment. IMI’s revenue is used to cover IMI’s costs, mostly related to the upkeep of the IMI website, and to support the further development of mediation standards worldwide. These contributions are therefore vital to IMI’s ongoing work towards the shared vision of Professional Mediation Worldwide: Promoting Consensus and Access to JusticePlease see the following page on the types of programs which can be recognized by IMI: https://imimediation.org/orgs/register-program/ and find a program here: https://imimediation.org/orgs/find-program/.
