The Patent Mediation and Arbitration Centre (PMAC) is now open to applications.

The Patent Mediation and Arbitration Centre (PMAC) is part of the Unified Patent Court (UPC), which provides a uniform and specialized framework for patent litigation across participating EU Member States. Established to encourage amicable settlements, the PMAC complements the UPC’s judicial structure—which includes a Court of First Instance, a Court of Appeal, and a Registry—by offering mediation and arbitration services. Through this mechanism, parties involved in patent disputes can seek alternative resolution methods supported by highly qualified judges and experts with extensive experience in patent litigation.

The Patent Mediation and Arbitration Centre (PMAC) of the Unified Patent Court is advancing toward full operational capacity, anticipated in early 2026. Following the adoption of its Codes of Conduct and Selection Criteria, the Centre is now inviting applications from qualified professionals seeking to be included on its official list of mediators, arbitrators, and experts. This initiative marks a significant step in establishing a structured and credible framework for alternative dispute resolution in the field of intellectual property.

Upon commencement of its activities, parties will be able to appoint mediators, arbitrators, and expert determinators from the PMAC’s roster to facilitate the settlement of disputes. By assembling a distinguished body of practitioners committed to the highest ethical and professional standards, the Centre aims to establish itself as a premier forum for resolving international intellectual property conflicts. Further information regarding eligibility and the application procedure is available on the PMAC’s official page.

The PMAC is looking for Candidates for Inclusion on the PMAC’s List of Mediators, Arbitrators and Expert Determinators. Admission to the List is for a fixed term of five years, with the possibility of renewal. Successful candidates will serve in an independent capacity and will not be employees of the PMAC or the UPC.
