Guided by our vision of “Professional Mediation Worldwide: Promoting Consensus and Access to Justice,” this policy embodies IMI’s commitment to a nuanced fee scheme applicable to both organizations and individuals.
The purpose of this policy is to ensure accessibility and fairness for all parties involved, transcending geographical and financial boundaries.
IMI recognizes the importance of creating an equitable fee structure for mediation services and mediators that reflects varying economic conditions across different countries and regions, along with mediation development.
The former pricing framework classified countries as either ‘full fee paying’ or ‘discounted’ based on their GDP per capita compared to the world average GDP per capita. This framework, which had applied only to organizations, mainly focused on economic growth. However, recognizing the need for a more comprehensive evaluation, IMI updated its fee scheme to incorporate a nuanced understanding of each country’s economic conditions, developmental landscape, and mediation progress, aiming for a more equitable and inclusive fee structure.
The new fee scheme is based on a dual classification system provided by the World Bank Group (WBG) and the Human Development Index (HDI) of the United Nations. The WBG classifies economies into four income groups (low, lower-middle, upper-middle, and high income) based on Gross National Income (GNI) per capita data, while the HDI categorizes countries based on life expectancy, education, and per capita income into groups such as “very high human development,” “high human development,” “medium human development,” and “low human development.”
This approach integrates economic status and comprehensive development indicators to evaluate the overall well-being and developmental standing of each country, providing a nuanced framework for fee classification. Under this new scheme, fees are structured as follows:
- Regular Fee for high-Income Countries (WBG) with Very High Human Development (HDI)
- 25% Discounted Fee for upper-Middle-Income Countries (WBG) with High Human Development (HDI)
- 50% Discounted Fee for lower-Middle-Income and Low-Income Countries (WBG) with Medium and Low Human Development (HDI).
By implementing this new fee scheme, IMI aims to ensure that mediation services are accessible to a wider range of individuals and organizations, promoting a more inclusive and diverse mediation landscape.
The DEI Policy and Fees apply to all types of individual certifications, as well as to all program-related fees, including those for application appraisals, audits processes, and annual listings, ensuring a comprehensive and accessible fee structure.

- The introduction of an Expedited Processing Fee, applicable to all program types (CMTP, QAP, MAQAP, ICQAP), for applications submitted outside IMI’s regular windows, requiring priority in review, or subject to urgent institutional or regulatory deadlines.
- An adjustment to the CMTP Application Processing Fee, reflecting rising demand and operational costs, while ensuring that IMI’s processes remain financially sustainable and internationally accessible.
