Michael was and always will be a huge motivator for me. He pursued the unity of mediators around the world and worked fervently to bless us all with a positive narrative of mediation practice. Though he was based miles away, he came and worked quietly to place Singapore on the map of international mediation. Directly and indirectly, his work became the foundation for professional mediators based here to excel and serve. Too few Singaporean mediators have had a chance to know him personally. But many will now have the benefit to build on his legacy and give disputants in Asia a credible opportunity to resolve their conflicts amicably. Friendship with Michael meant having many good laughs and cries as we exchanged crazy dreams about how we each can do just a little more. In my last private conversation with Michael, he shared about his plan to fade and let new leaders shine. My reply to him, then as now, “Michael, for me, you will never stop shining”.
