The entire mediation community, and we at IIAM and APCAM, express our profound sadness at the demise of Michael Leathes, a legendary figure in the field of mediation. In July 2007, Professor Jim Coben of Hamline University, USA, introduced me to Mr. Michael Leathes, stating that he is one of the most prominent figures in the field of mediation and that he is spearheading a global revolution in the practice of mediation. Michael was instrumental in the establishment of the International Mediation Institute (IMI) in The Hague, with the primary objective of establishing global standards for mediators and establishing mediation as a global profession. In August 2007, I was invited to join the IMI Advisory Council. I was delighted to receive the invitation. Our relation started from that day. Irena Vanenkova and Mike McIlwrath were the strong team with him. Subsequently, Michael invited me to join the Standards Commission of IMI and the Ethics Committee of IMI. His guidance and support have consistently served to kindle my passion for mediation. With his assistance, I was able to conduct the Global Pound Conference in India during 2017. I am profoundly grateful to Michael for the benevolent affection he has bestowed upon me. The global mediation community will always remember him, and his legacy will endure forever.
