In Michael we have lost an indomitable ally, and his is a tremendous loss. He influenced a generation of corporations to rethink their ways of settling disputes and was an influencer in the real sense, not the sense in which it is vacuously used today. I will miss him and miss his wisdom and kindness. It was Michael who encouraged me to write the chapter on cross-cultural issues in the 7 Keys which he so brilliantly conceived and brought to life. Michael was all those things you describe to me as well as to dozens – no hundreds – of others. I am terribly, terribly sad and also shocked. He was not nearly old enough. He encouraged me to go further than I thought I could and to keep striving. I’m sure he did that for many people but for me he remains one of my greatest supporters. He was a connection not a terminal. May his life be a blessing.
