The International Mediation Institute is delighted to be a supporting organisation for the upcoming event, ‘VII International Forum “MEDIATION AND LAW”’, hosted by the Ukrainian Academy of Mediation. This event will be of particular interest to mediators, lawyers, ADR professionals, students and public servants.
The Forum “MEDIATION AND LAW” is the largest international event on mediation in Ukraine for legal professionals, mediators and all interested parties.
This year’s Forum is particularly important as a coordinating platform for analysing the experience gained, challenges and achievements in the use of mediation and other ADR during the War, as well as their role in the further restoration of Ukraine.
In addition, the Forum will provide an opportunity to discuss the implementation of the Law of Ukraine “On Mediation” adopted on the eve of the war, as well as the ratification of the Singapore Convention. An essential component of the Forum will be the presentation of the best foreign practices, innovations and new solutions in the field of mediation.
Traditionally, the speakers at the Forum will include representatives of Ukrainian central authorities, as well as experienced Ukrainian and foreign mediators and arbitrators.
The two-day online international mediation forum is organised free of charge. The event is inclusive and international participation is welcome. There are no limitations on any grounds.

I am pleased that the Ukrainian Academy of Mediation has recently been approved as the first IMI CMTP operating from Ukraine, an important step in capacity building of mediation in Ukraine and enhanced international coopration.

Mediation and law share an umbilical cord. There is a symbiotic relationship between the two. Mediation sceptics need to overcome their apprehensions over efficacy of mediation settlement agreements, especially after the advent of Singapore Convention. The 2023 Forum on Mediation and Law assumed significance due to the bitter experiences of international community emanating from the Russian war against Ukraine. Such a tragedy necessarily calls for employing mediation to restore peace, normalcy in Ukraine, rapidly reconstruct it, and wholeheartedly promote welfare and well-being of all those who are directly or indirectly affected. It is high time that we pragmatically used mediation and other ADR methods during the War, as well as their role in expeditious development of Ukraine. One can learn a lot from the extant best foreign practices, innovations and new solutions in the realm of mediation.
