About Singapore Mediation Centre

The Singapore Mediation Centre (SMC) is a not-for-profit organisation structured as a company limited by guarantee under the Singapore Academy of Law (SAL). Established 27 years ago, SMC is dedicated to promoting and facilitating the resolution of disputes through mediation and other alternative dispute resolution (ADR) processes. With a proven track record of efficiency and success, SMC has facilitated over 6,700 mediation matters as of 31 October 2024, achieving settlement in close to 70% of cases, with more than 90% resolved within a single day. To date, SMC has mediated disputes valued at over S$17 billion, including
claims as high as S$1.06 billion. Its services extend beyond mediation to include adjudication under the Building and Construction Industry Security of Payment Act and neutral evaluation, supported by industry schemes with agencies such as IPOS, Council for Estate Agencies, SkillsFuture Singapore, the Singapore Medical Council, and IMDA.

Complementing its dispute resolution services, SMC is a leading provider of training, consultancy, and accreditation in ADR. In 2024 alone, it trained over 1,300 participants across 38 programmes, ranging from flagship public courses such as the Strategic Conflict Management for Professionals modules, to customised courses designed for government agencies and private organisations. Since 2001, SMC has accredited more than 1,100 mediators and continues to offer specialist programmes in family, healthcare, insolvency, intellectual property, and maritime disputes, as well as training and accreditation for adjudicators. Its training and accreditation programmes are recognised internationally by the International Mediation Institute (IMI). In partnership with SAL, SMC also organises the IMI-accredited Mediation Advocacy Course, further strengthening its role in developing both
mediators and advocates in ADR practice. In addition, SMC provides consultancy support, training of trainers, and assistance in setting up mediation units for organisations locally and overseas.

Congratulations to Singapore Mediation Centre!

IMI is the only organization in the world that transcends local jurisdictions to develop global, professional standards for mediators and advocates involved in collaborative dispute resolution and negotiation.
