Mediation Profile

Alida Camp is a full-time mediator and arbitrator. She specializes in mediating and arbitrating disputes in a wide variety of industries including entertainment, construction, securities, fashion and general commercial. With over 100 hours of training, she has mediated more than 300 disputes including multi-party commercial and construction disputes. Mediated issues include breach of contract, breach of distribution agreements, breach of agreement between gallery and artist, breach of fiduciary duty, employment (both EEO and wrongful termination claims), construction defect, construction disputes between owner/architect, owner/contractor, contractor/sub-contractor, damage to adjacent property, mechanic liens, and customer claims against broker/dealers. Alida is on the roster of the American Arbitration Association, the CPR Institute, the EEOC, federal and state courts, FINRA, and Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts. Prior to her work as a neutral, Alida produced seven feature films, served as General Counsel and Vice-President of Business Affairs at Concorde-New Horizons Corp, an independent motion picture production and distribution company, production counsel on two independent features and Assistant Professor of Business Law at the University of Michigan School of Business. She began her career after graduating from the Columbia University School of Law as a litigator.

Named a Power Mediator by The Hollywood Reporter, Esq., Alida Camp has mediated more than 300 disputes in the entertainment, arts, construction, garment and securities industries as well in other commercial areas. She has also mediated more than 70 employment disputes. The issues involved have included breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty, employment (EEO issues included age, race, sexual, ethnic discrimination, ADA violations, retaliation; non-EEO issues include wrongful termination, alleged failure to comply with warrant, option, severance obligations), construction, including construction defect, claims of damage to adjoining property, disputes between contractor/sub-contractor, owner/architect, owner/contractor and mechanic liens. She has mediated multi-party disputes in general commercial and construction disputes. Alida has trained mediators for Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts, organized and spoken on numerous ADR panels for the ABA, the NYC Bar Association, and the American Arbitration Association. She has organized and presented programs at various law firms in conjunction with the ABA Entertainment ADR Committee, which she co-chairs, and the AAA. She has spoken in law school classes at Columbia University and Brooklyn Law School, and has assisted a law school mediation clinic class in mediating in NYC Small Claims Court since 2006. Alida has received more than 100 hours of mediation training. She was trained in Advanced Mediation, Mediation and Negotiation at the Pepperdine Unversity Straus School of Law, and in advanced mediation at the US District Court for the EDNY, the EEOC, the NASD (currently FINRA), the NYS Supreme Court Commercial Division and the NYC Bar Association.

I use both evaluative and facilitative approaches. I allow the parties to reach the solution they desire by employing the path they choose; however, the parties, their attorneys and I carefully discuss each party's strengths and weaknesses and why resolution through mediation would be beneficial and preferable to arbitration or litigation. Where the parties may not have considered a particular type of solution, the negotiation has dramatically slowed down and become unproductive, or the parties have found it difficult to continue negotiations, I generally will suggest, with the parties consent, settlement terms, either broad or specific, as the circumstances indicate. I am extremely persistent and work very hard, doing whatever it takes, to assist the parties in achieving a resolution of their dispute.
