Feedback digest by Treasa Kenny, 26 Sep 2018 The Mediators’ Institute of Ireland is a professional Institute which does not assign mediators’ to specific cases nor does it evaluate the performance of mediators through direct client feedback. This Review included a self-declaration by the mediator of client feedback – both verbal and written. Ber Barry Murray has worked as a mediator since 2001 and she has brought to this profession knowledge, skills and experience from a wide arena of education, business and law. In working as a mediator, she has developed a competence that is based on the integration of this experience into a new way of working. In the eight years that Ber has worked as a mediator, she has mediated in excess of 300 cases. In the first 5 years, the majority of these cases were in the family arena and in the latter three years they have been a combination of workplace, commercial and family. In the cases that she has mediated the majority of clients came to agreement and on those cases where there was occasion to follow through, the clients commented on the sustainability of the agreement. Organisations that have used her as a mediator return when there is a further organisational dispute. Equally, there are strong recommendations that go from one organisation to another. There are examples of people moving organisation and carrying the recommendation forward. Her style of mediation is predominately one that is reflectively based. This facilitates clients to discuss their issues, to see their issues through a lens different to the one they come to the room with, imagery to achieve transformation. Her structured approach in enabling people to reach options helps clients to have successes in areas that support them making more difficult decisions and ultimately reaching resolution. 90% of cases that were mediated and came to agreement continued to be successful 3 months after case completion. A strength in working with the people and issues that come into the room. No reportable negative comments have been received by the Mediators’ Institute in relation to Ber’s mediation practice.
