This Feedback Digest is based on 32 feedbacks in 48 mediations, initially submitted from March 2008 to December 2010. Corinne has been a member of the Provincial Court Civil Claims Mediation Program since June 21, 2004 and has mediated 246 civil, non-family, claims since that time. Her resolution rate (of files being completely or partially resolved through mediation) is 73%. Corinne has uniformly received positive feedback from mediation participants. Within the Alberta Courts, mediation is a free service that can resolve disputes without going to trial. Mediators receive a small honorarium for their contributions and are expected to be well trained and experienced in resolving a variety of disputes. Corinne has mediated issues from wrongful termination, business disputes, loans and liquidated debt, interpersonal relationship breakdowns to landlord and tenant issues. Parties have applauded Corinne for her ability to be neutral, and for having a strong ability to help each side better understand the other’s. She helps people explore their challenges and find new options to resolve the dispute. She does not judge who is right or wrong and does not give legal advice and consistently adheres to the her code of ethics. When a file is screened into mediation, the parties named in the lawsuit must attend the mediation, often without a keen interest to do so. Participants then include named parties, agents, lawyers and/or corporate representatives. Feedback Received indicates that Corinne is adept at managing multiple parties, with multiple interests at the table, while balancing all parties roles in the mediation to keep the mediation process effective. Parties have commented that she is very effective at managing forceful participants and she rapidly develops highly trusting relationships with parties. A wide range of mediation skills have emerged from Feedbacks received on Corinne’s mediations, both from parties and fellow mediators. In particular, frequent mention was made of her ability to propose new ways of dealing with potential deal-breakers when they arose, her persistence in keeping the parties working towards a mutually acceptable resolution and her ability to de-escalate very high emotional situations through a caring and compassionate attitude. Also, feedback received on Corinne's role as a mentor mediator has indicated that she is very effective at assisting with the development of her fellow mediators and she has been praised by her peers for her ability to continually demonstrate skills, tools and techniques that they have taken on as part of their own repertoire.
