Feedback digest
This digest has been prepared by Beverly-Ann Rogers, a commercial mediator based in London in line with IMI Guidelines and based on 8 feedbacks in 10 mediations initially submitted in June 2009. Style Feedback from clients across a wide range of disputes, including his core area of construction, highlight David’s combination of commercial skills and an intuitive ability to engage parties. A consistent theme in feedback is David’s ability to build rapport. He is described as “an inspirational facilitator” with “a courteous, calm and efficient manner” and a style which “really engages the parties.” It is perhaps best summed up in the quote: “David is a supreme people manager.” In addition to his people skills, clients appreciate David’s engagement with the content of the dispute and his wealth of negotiation experience honed over many years acting as a surveyor and, since 1992, as a mediator. As one client puts it: “David is an expert in reality-testing and challenging party’s positions, whilst ensuring that the responsibility for the problem and the solution remains with the parties.”His negotiation experience is perceived as adding real value, in particular the fact that he is “numerate in a lateral way, devising novel and agreeable solutions” with “a refreshingly practical approach to the issues.” David’s combination of skills and experience no doubt contribute to a widely recognised “remarkable settlement record.” Process skills As befits David’s position as “an undisputed doyen of mediation training”, David’s process management is second to none. He is particularly valued for his calm and effective management of multi-party disputes: “When it comes to multi-party mediations, David is considered a pre-eminent practitioner.” He is also experienced and skilled in the challenging art of effective co-mediation. This summary represents a fair and balanced view of the responses received.
