Parties and counsel who have used John Allen Chalk would overwhelmingly use his services again and would, without hesitation, recommend him to others. Typical of the comments reflecting Mr. Chalk’s acceptability are: (i) John Allen is experienced, very knowledgeable about many areas of the law and hard working. He is particularly good with difficult commercial cases because of his experience and his willingness to read materials provided and familiarize himself with the issues involved; (ii) John Allen is a very good mediator. He gives his full attention and effort to make certain that each case has the best chance of being resolved; and (iii) Mr. Chalk was, perhaps, the most effective mediator I have worked with. He was candid with both parties as to the relative strengths and weaknesses of their respective cases, and encouraged the parties to reach a realistic and fair settlement. I have no hesitation about working with him again, or recommending him to others. Mr. Chalk’s mediation skills and abilities are rated as highly effective. Typical of feedback received in this regard are: (i) Mr. Chalk has a quick grasp and knowledge of complex legal issues; (ii) John Allen is very good at understanding difficult issues and is willing to be firm in discussions with the parties; (iii) He is thorough, intelligent, listens to facts and issues, and strong in character; (iv) I would not hesitate to recommend Mr. Chalk to others based on his candor with the parties, his ability and willingness to explore their respective needs and positions, and his years of experience in working with opposing parties to explore creative settlement options. Mr. Chalk is also highly regarded for his ability to effect a positive outcome. For example, one provider of feedback noted that Mr. Chalk created an atmosphere that ultimately resulted in a resolution. While another noted that in a mediation that involved a dispute between two relatively experienced small business owners, Mr. Chalk worked with the parties and helped each to understand the other's position. He helped drain much of the emotion from the case and provided an environment and framework encouraging settlement. In this mediation he brought to bear his knowledge of contract law and commercial litigation generally, the perspective of years of dealing with clients from all strata of life, and his empathy for each party's point of view. Costs were widely reported as reasonable in the context of the value of the disputes mediated by Mr. Chalk, and in general a very high degree of satisfaction was reported. No reportable negative comments have been received since Mr. Chalk’s designation as an IMI Certified Mediator.
