Michael was an extraordinary mentor, friend, teacher, leader, lawyer, businessman, visionary, and, above all, a remarkable human being. His deep values, principles, unwavering sense of justice and indomitable spirit touched everyone who knew him. His impact extended far beyond his professional career as an outstanding lawyer and maverick general counsel. He was instrumental in founding, orchestrating and sustaining IMI and so many other projects across the globe, such as the Global Pound Conference (GPC), INTA’s ADR committee, CPR’ international expansion (its first European meeting in the Hague in 2008), the creation of SIMI, the 7 Keys to Unlock Mediation’s Golden Age published by Mediate.com, and the creation of the Institute for Negotiation Innovation (INI), always inspiring others. He contributed greatly to the local development of mediation in the UK, Singapore, the Netherlands, India and across the European Union. Even in death, Michael continues to bring the international mediation community together. May his legacy of servant leadership, humility, and inspiration continue to guide us for many more decades to come.
