Upcoming leadership changes at IMI

After four and a half years with IMI, Executive Director Laura May Skillen will shortly be departing the organisation. We are very lucky to have recruited Ivana Nincic as new Executive Director; she will work with Operations Manager Chimdimma Onyedebelu to continue taking IMI from strength to strength.

Laura will be finishing up at IMI in early August, with Ivana starting in September. You can learn a little about Ivana below.

Ivana Ninčić Österle

Ivana Ninčić Österle is a lawyer, mediator and public policy consultant for judicial reform, specializing in mediation and judicial efficiency. She is a Weinstein JAMS International Fellow, Weinstein International Senior Fellow and has served for four years as a member and National Correspondent of the CEPEJ – European Commission for Efficiency of Justice, including serving as a member of the jury for the prestigious Council of Europe Crystal Scales of Justice award in 2019.
 
Aside from developing her own mediation practice, she had been engaged since 2013 as a consultant on several prominent justice sector donor funded reform projects (MDTF-World Bank, IPA, USAID) within which she has been working on devising a more sustainable mediation system as well as active promotion of mediation. Among initiatives and achievements she takes most pride in are: 

  • The drafting and promotion of the Guidelines for Enhancing of the Use of Mediation, which were issued by the Supreme Court of Cassation, High Court Council Ministry of Justice of Serbia;
  • The drafting of amendments and supplements of the Serbian Law on Court Tax providing for benefits in using mediation and other forms of ADR;
  • Spearheading the initiative for Serbia to sign the Singapore Convention on Mediation.

Ivana is Serbian by birth and legal training, predominantly Canadian by education, and international by professional aspiration. She has received mediation training in Serbia, USA and Singapore. She has also been particularly avid in public policy innovation, and has received training to this end from the Hertie School (Berlin) as well as the OSCE ODIHR. She is currently based in Austria.
