Event Invitation: X International Forum “Mediation & Law”

The International Mediation Institute (IMI) is delighted to support the X International Forum “Mediation & Law”, led by the Ukrainian Academy of Mediation, an IMI Recognized Mediator Training Program (RMTP) implementing organization.

The International Forum “Mediation & Law” is the largest specialised event in Ukraine dedicated to developing mediation and other alternative dispute resolution methods. The purpose of the Forum is to promote mediation as an effective conflict resolution tool, enhance the quality of mediation services, exchange best practices, and create opportunities for interaction and cooperation. This event aims to highlight innovative approaches to alternative dispute resolution, explore prospects for their development, and discuss current trends.

The X International Forum “Mediation & Law” will allow participants to join panel discussions, workshops and other events dedicated to relevant topics. Additionally, participants will receive a certificate of attendance.

📅 Date: June 8-13, 2026
💻 Location: Online

Now in its tenth edition, the Forum is once again bringing together practitioners, academics, and legal professionals from around the world. This year’s programme runs from June 8 to 13, 2026, spanning topics from court-connected mediation and restorative justice to investment disputes, veterans’ stories, and sustainable mediation practice. IMI has been a regular contributor to the Forum. Last year’s IMI panel on intercultural competence drew over 600 participants, and we are delighted to be returning with a dedicated panel this year.

On June 11, at 10:40 CEST, IMI will be joining a segment of the Forum with a panel titled ‘Strengthening Mediation: How Global Ethical Standards Support Local Mediation.’ The panel will open with welcoming words from Luiza Romanadze, President of the Ukrainian Academy of Mediation, followed by a panel discussion featuring IMI Ethics Committee members Prof. Lola Akin Ojelabi and Mary Walker OAM, as well as Iryna Dotsenko, Member of the Ukrainian Academy of Mediation and a Board Member of the National Association of Mediators of Ukraine. The discussion will be moderated by IMI Ethics Committee Co-Secretaries Sophie Tkemaladze and Abigél Farkas.

Ethical Standards as a Foundation for Local Practice

Ethical standards are a crucial quality indicator in mediation, driving the need for shared frameworks that practitioners can trust and apply in their daily work. But how do such global standards translate into actionable guidance for mediators working in diverse local contexts?

During this panel, the speakers will share their views on how ethical guidelines can help navigate local dilemmas, and shed light on the role of sustainable mediation practices and the Mediators’ Green Pledge in advancing the profession. Participants will have the opportunity to engage with the issues directly, share their experiences, and contribute to an ongoing global conversation about what ethical mediation practice looks like in action.

The IMI Draft Code of Conduct for Mediators

Central to the discussion will be the IMI Draft Code of Conduct for Mediators (2024), a non-binding framework currently open for public consultation. The Draft Code represents a significant step in IMI’s ongoing commitment to supporting professional mediation worldwide.

We invite you to read the Draft Code and share your perspectives through the Public Consultation Questionnaire. Have you encountered ethical questions or dilemmas in mediation? IMI welcomes your experience. Submit your questions and dilemmas using the Ethics Questions and Dilemmas Form.

We hope to see you online!
