Feedback digest by Bertha Greenstein, 15 Jul 2018 This Feedback Digest is based on 16 feedbacks from 8 mediations that were randomly chosen for review since January 1, 2014. Over the same period of time Ms. Howes has done 15 mediations through my office. Ms. Howes was consistently rated by the parties as an excellent mediator and one that they would be willing to use again. Evidence of this is shown by the fact that they do specifically request her services for mediation and other matters. Parties felt that Ms. Howes’ explanation of the process and her role was clear and helpful. A number noted that she had a particularly good ability to balance the environment when one of the parties was less experienced than the other. It was often reported that she was very successful in building and maintaining the trust of the parties. As well, she was an excellent role model in terms of setting the tone of the interactions. Ms. Howes was able to help the parties use their time efficiently, she was always well prepared and encouraged parties to come prepared as well. Her demeanor was both professional and friendly. She listened well and as one party said, “She was obviously interested but not too nosy.” All parties found her previous experience valuable and her contributions positive and constructive. Ms. Howes was quickly able to develop a deep understanding of both the substantive and relationship issues. Using that knowledge and her numerous mediation skills and techniques, she was able to bring a tailored approach to each mediation. Ms. Howes helped the parties find common ground and carefully explore all options. She maintained the appropriate amount of control over the process and parties felt that this was one of the reasons she was able to successfully help them reach a successful conclusion. Many reported that without her help, resolution would not have occurred. There were no negative observations and that is very consistent with Ms. Howes’ exceptional reputation.
