Parties and counsel who have used Paul Lurie would overwhelmingly use his services again and would, without hesitation, recommend him to others. Typical of the comments reflecting Mr. Lurie’s acceptability are: (i) Mr. Lurie was insightful regarding issues and parties, and he was well prepared; (ii) He was skilled and knowledgeable with the subject matter involved; and (iii) Mr. Lurie did an excellent job conveying the strenghs and weaknesses of the parties’ positions and the associated litigation/arbitration risks. Mr. Lurie’s mediation skills and abilities are rated as highly effective. Typical of feedback received in this regard are: (i) Mr. Lurie handled the mediation very effectively, given his extensive background and knowledge of commercial issues. He used his expertise well in getting the parties to quickly focus on the true areas of contention; (ii) His creative use of a combined “informal” discovery process, including session experts and separate negotiation sessions, was instrumental to a negotiated resolution of claims; (iii) His understanding of the applicable case law made a decisive difference in the outcome; and (iv) Mr. Lurie has a strong background in construction litigation/arbitration and, as a result, fully appreciates and comprehends the motives of parties to construction disputes. He had the ability to explain the risks associated with not settling the dispute. Mr. Lurie is also highly regarded for his ability to effect a positive outcome. For example, one provider of feedback noted that Mr. Lurie’s skills as a construction lawyer allowed him to speak with authority when the parties took radically opposed positions, to eliminate extraneous issues smoothly and to reach a payment plan. While another noted that aside from the experience Mr. Lurie has and the respect he commands, in a particular matter he addressed discretely the overarching personal issues arising from the prior close relationship of the parties, which interfered with the parties’ communications and would have stymied a lesser mediator. Costs were widely reported as reasonable in the context of the value of the disputes mediated by Mr. Lurie, and in general a very high degree of satisfaction was reported. No reportable negative comments have been received since Mr. Lurie’s designation as an IMI Certified Mediator.
